A Little Bit of Halloween Inspiration…

Everyone loves Halloween, and as members of a fashion that loves OTT and themed outfits, Halloween is a time of year I’m sure pretty much every lolita looks forward to. (And who doesn’t love a lolita Halloween costume!?) Anywho, here’s some fun links to get you excited for the season of spookiness.

1. DIY Drippy Nails. I’ve definitely seen this style used for OTT Sweet chocolate/candy outfits, but it looks super creepy as red over plain nails. I can definitely imagine these for a Gothic coord or a great costume detail. And it looks so amazingly easy! Definitely going to be trying this in the upcoming weeks.

2. Take Back Halloween. I mentioned this really quick in my Carnival post, but Take Back Halloween is a website filled with fun historical costume ideas for the girl who doesn’t want to run around dressed as a sexy tootsie roll. Keep it classy and impress people with your DIY and historical knowledge.

3. All Hallows Eve. Tumblr user? Just looking for a quick fix of Halloween goodness? They’re reblogging adorable holiday stuff all season long. (And great recipes!)

4. Halloween Cake Pops. Really fun to create, and they make an adorable gift or party favor. Or you could just hoard them all to yourself. If I had a kitchen in this blasted dorm that’s what I’d do!

5. Pumpkin Decorating Ideas. Carving is fun but the crafter in me wants to put glitter and paint all over everything. I especially love the pumpkins decorated with lace, but the lantern and city pumpkins are adorable!

I hope everyone is having a great October! What’s your favorite part of Halloween?

Jewel-Tone Inspiration: Sapphire

Jewel-Tone Inspiration: Sapphire
For Fall, I’m inspired by jewel-tones; they are so effortlessly elegant, they pair very well with neutrals, and they look positively divine in my favorite fall fabric, velvet.
My first entry in this series is Sapphire. Though darker blue is traditionally paired with black in lolita, it goes well with white and beige as well, and can be warmed up with gold-tone accents. Sapphire easily switches between extravagant elegance and edgy-romantic based on what its worn with. For a more romantic feel, pair your favorite sapphire-hued skirt with some lace tights, a peter-pan collar sweater, and some sweet velvety heels. For that Moi-Meme-Moitie-esque extravagance, go for the most sumptuous accessories you can find to match your favorite OP.

My Very First Outfit Pic, Macarons Galore, and a Lady Sloth Commission

Well, here it goes!

Top: Offbrand (Forever 21)
Skirt: Innocent World Replica (Dream of Lolita on QutieLand)
Necklace: Disney Couture

I realize I look terribly awkward and its a weirdly-lit phone picture, but I’m really happy with my outfit! I felt gorgeous all day.  And I’m learning to embrace my lolita side instead of putting it on a shelf; I deserve to feel pretty and wear whatever the hell I want!

Here’s a pic of my (simple) makeup:

But on to more interesting things! I found a bakery in my area that makes macarons, so I bought a box to share with my boyfriend.

They’re gorgeous aren’t they? The green was pistachio, purple was lavender, orange was passion fruit, and the yellow was lemon. I have a thing about lavender flavoring and these were absolutely perfect and did not take on that “soapy” flavor at all. A++

Inspired by my rekindled love for macarons, I chanced upon a book at Anthropologie:

The recipes in this book are absolutely mouth-watering. Red velvet, lemon poppy seed, sesame, green tea, grapefruit, pumpkin… I want to bake them all before I head off to college!

And finally, some news that’s mostly exciting to me. I just commissioned a Lady Sloth Silk Cherubins JSK (which she is still taking commissions for on LJ!). I’m especially excited because its completely custom-sized, and she did not charge extra for a larger size/longer length. I’m getting the full-fabric version (pictured below) with added shirring, and I plan on doing a full review when I receive it. All I can say for now is that Lady Sloth was very kind and willing/quick to communicate, and I have no doubts that my JSK will be lovely.

Thanks for reading! I hope everyone is having a lovely end to their summer.

July Round Up

(I’ve decided to do a link/tutorial/info round-up monthly. Its a good way for me to justify my link hoarding and share with others, as well as motivate me to post! Anyway… )

I’m currently lusting after Baby’s “Fragrant Rose Memories” JSK in Noir. What an absolutely gorgeous print; 100% my style. I really ought to keep better track of brands so things like this don’t slip under my radar. Maybe I’ll treat myself after this next summer paycheck!

I’ve vowed to update my inspiration Tumblr more often, and include much more lolita than it has lately! Check it out.

If you’re a lolita seamstress, Shabby Fabrics is the place to go! Their Antique Flower collection is stunning for classic, gothic, and sweet alike, and I love some of the riskier fabric ideas for dresses. A simple JSK in this pretty black/purple combination would be lovely!

I have lately been more and more fascinated with puerh tea. It has a ton of benefits, a strong flavor, and quite easy to find online. My favorite puerh flavor is peach, and this one has the added benefit of being “Power Slimming.” There are also some good “fruit-enhanced” varieties (read – sweet without adding sweetener), like apple/strawberry/mint. Yum.

A sweet and simple bow tutorial. These are adorable, and very easy to add a pin/clip back to. A fun and quick craft for a lazy summer afternoon.

Early April Updates!

Hello again! I still am terrible at updating this. But oh well. At least I’m (sort of) trying?

I still haven’t gotten around to altering that lovely Innocent World JSK I recently bought. I’m thinking I may just sell it- its quite short on me anyway, and I think it would look silly with an underskirt. Oh well. But in light of that disappointment, I’m considering another foray into the trials and tribulations of buying brand as a plus size lolita. With this:

Innocent World’s new Germaine One Piece. The measurements are incredibly promising- they give quite a bit of wiggle room for someone with an 85cm waist and 100cm bust. I’m a lot less afraid that a similar effect will happen with this dress because of the way the shoulders are cut. And its also quite long. It seems like a perfect basic lolita piece as well. As someone who has been loving the fashion for so long I barely have what anyone would consider a lolita wardrobe. I guess I’ll see if I can pull together the money to get this dress. :)

Besides lusting after pretty rufflies? Life has been very uneventful. It is strange being a 4th quarter senior. It feels like nothing matters anymore. Just free time and time with the boyfriend. At least this gives me more time to (hopefully) post on this blog!
